Have you ever sat and thought about what it truly means to be a woman of purpose? Maybe you’ve questioned in your mind: Who is she, what is she like, what does she do, …?
If you have, you’re not alone. In fact, this is a common question among many women, especially Christian women. We often hear the term purpose, and we eventually find ourselves questioning what it even means?
Several years ago, I didn’t quite understand what it meant to be a woman of purpose. It wasn’t until I began to seek the Lord and searched His word that I started to understand what it meant to walk in purpose. Just like most, I thought a woman of purpose meant being this special, super powerful, and unique kind of woman—only to discover that wasn’t at all true.
While we are all unique and special in our own way, this doesn’t holistically define what a woman of purpose is.
Over the last several years I sought to discover purpose and what it meant to be a woman of purpose. As a result, God began to give me a clearer understanding.
In today’s post, I would like to share with you what I’ve discovered about purpose, what it means to be a woman of purpose, and how you can get started today.

This post is all about what it means to be a woman of purpose.
What is Purpose?
To effectively walk in purpose or to be a woman of purpose you first need to understand what purpose means.
While there are several references in the bible that speaks of purpose, it is often referred to as your calling or ministry.
Purpose is simply the calling of God on your life; the work or body of work that God has called you to; or the ministry God has given you to fulfill.
For each of us that calling or purpose looks differently, but we are all called to accomplish something in the body of Christ.
To be called by God means to be summoned or invited by Him. So if God has called you to purpose, which he has, this means that He has summoned or invited you to accept His divine calling on your life.
Now that we’ve briefly covered what purpose means, let’s get into what it means to be a woman of purpose.
What it means to be a Woman of Purpose
A woman of purpose is one whom God has called, chosen, and qualified to fulfill her divine assignment.
She isn’t just called by God—she answers His call. That’s what sets her apart. A woman of purpose doesn’t stop at being called; she earnestly responds.
In addition, she walks with grace and confidence in who she is and in what she does.
Being a woman of purpose means to be in total pursuit of purpose. You’re intentional about seeking and pursuing the things that God has called you to accomplish.
The Life of Jesus
When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that God the Father sent Him on purpose, with a purpose, and for a purpose. No matter what He endured along the journey He stayed committed to fulfilling the assignment of God on His life.
I wanted to share this with you to illustrate what it means to be a woman of purpose. No matter the obstacles or trials, we press on—because our hearts are fully in it, and we remain committed.
How to become a Woman of Purpose
As a woman who has been on an intentional journey to discover and pursue purpose, I’m here to share with you some key ways in which you can become a woman of purpose.
While there are many ways to get started, I’ll share with you three ways I’ve discovered on my personal journey. These three things have helped me to discover what God was calling me to.
1. Establish Intimacy with God
Establishing intimacy with God and seeking His heart is the key to unlocking the will of God for your life. The more time you spend with God and grow closer to Him, the more He will reveal to you.
You may ask the obvious question, “What is the will of God?“
The will of God are the plans, purposes, and ways of God. It is God’s desire for each of us to fulfill and accomplish good works in His divine kingdom.
This is why it is so vital for you to get to a place in your life where you begin to seek His will and not your own. God created you to follow and live by His plans—not your own.
When you set out to follow your own will as opposed to God’s will—in hindsight—you ignore His will.
2. Align with God’s Will
Once you fully surrender your will for the sake of following Christs’, everything changes.
Aligning with God’s will means putting aside any personal will, desires, or pursuits that does not align with what God has planned for your life.
To know the will of God is to know His plans and purposes for your life. This shows the importance of seeking His will in the first place.
Aligning with God’s plans and purpose for your life means to put aside anything that does not align with who you truly are in Him; even those things that don’t align with the direction He wants to take you.
3. Make it Intentional
Putting yourself on an intentional journey to discover and pursue purpose is vital when it comes to being a woman of purpose.
God created you and ingrained divine purpose in you; only in Him will you find it.
While on my own journey, I intentionally sought the Lord to show me my purpose. In time, He began to reveal bits and pieces to me.
The power of intentionality, as I’ve discovered, is all about being completely all in and genuine in your pursuits. It means dedicating yourself fully to pursuing a purpose that honors God. You reach a place where you give it your all.
God is looking for your complete yes. He is the One who will guide you to purpose, equip you for purpose, and mold you into the woman of purpose you’re destined to be.
