Imagine waking up each day to a life that is full of purpose and intention. One that you have carefully curated to align with who you truly are (i.e. values, aspirations, etc.) and what God has called you to. A life where everything that you do directly aligns with the path God has you on. This is what living intentionally in Christ is all about.
Living an intentional life is far from a perfect life. It’s a life that is consciously lived and well thought out to ensure that you are moving in the direction God is leading you.
Today, I would like to share with you what it truly means to live intentionally in Christ, the power of intentionality, and some tips on how you can begin to cultivate an intentional life for yourself. If this is something you are interested in, I encourage you to continue reading.
This post is all about living intentionally in Christ.
What it Means to Live Intentionally
We live in a modern day era where living intentionally in Christ is an uncommon topic or afterthought. For some, it may not even be a thought.
Many of us are living within the confines of a society that encourages us to either pursue our own selfish ambitions, live life on someone else’s terms, or conform to the norm. But what about how God wants us to live?! What about what He’s calling us to?
As of late, within the last several years, it seems that intentional living has gained more attention. Individuals are talking more about intentional living and becoming more aware of its benefits, and how it can alter their lives, in terms of adding to its overall quality.
Intentional living is about living your life with intention and purpose. Many times throughout our lives we become stuck in a daily cycle where we begin to feel robotic; And most times without ever realizing it. We find ourselves doing things out of habit without ever really considering what we truly want for ourselves and following the path intended. Instead, we pursue lives that we think we should live or that others have told us we should live. But I have great news for you! There is a way to break free of that and get on the path to living an intentional life.
Living intentionally in Christ is one of the most important choices you will make when pursuing life in Christ. It determines your daily choices, which ultimately determines how you live your life. Each day you awake is a new opportunity to live true to God and who He created you to be. And to live in total alignment with His will and purpose for your life.
An intentional life is all about living a life that is just that, intentional. It means to live a life that is purposeful, with specific intention, or carefully thought out, according to Dictionary.com. This type of living is true to who you are and how you plan to live your life; And choosing to do only those things that are aligned with that.
I would like to share with you two types or versions of intentional living: Intentional living in general and intentional living in Christ. As a believer of Christ, you ultimately learn to live intentionally in Christ.
Intentional living in General:
Living intentional is knowing what you want in life and doing the necessary things that will help you get there. It’s being focused on accomplishing whatever it is that you set for yourself to achieve, and choosing daily habits that aligns solely with that. It also means to live a meaningful life and one according to your own personal beliefs.
Intentional living in Christ:
On the other hand, living intentionally in Christ is similar, but you are more aware of the life that God has called you to live as opposed to what you plan for yourself. Then, doing only the things that truly aligns with that. This means making daily choices that are directly proportioned to fulfilling what God has called you to in your life. It’s about not living your life any kind of way, but only in a way that connects with your purpose and who you truly are at your core.
Living intentionally in Christ goes hand-in-hand with living an authentic life in Christ. It’s about understanding the life and person God has called you to live and be. Having a clear depiction of the life you truly want to live in Christ and not compromising that by making decisions that goes against your true desires are important as you pursue this way of living.
The Power of Intentionality
There is a hidden power in intentionality. I say hidden because I don’t think many understand just how dramatically your life can change when you choose to live intentionally. Intentionality is not a thing, but a daily practice and lifestyle. It’s a way of living. It’s committing yourself to a specific way of living based on a set of carefully curated decisions and focus.
How to Cultivate an Intentional Life
Living intentionally, as I stated before, is both a lifestyle and daily practice. It first starts with a committed mindset and heart to live your life in a more meaningful way. When you become intentional about how you live everything changes. Everything you do has a purpose and all things actually work together in your life. You’ll become more focused and accomplished in life.
Here are some practical things that you can begin to consider as you direct your life in a more meaningful way that is totally aligned with God, and more intentional.
1. Have a Desire to Live Intentionally
It all starts with a personal desire to want to pursue an intentional life. It starts with this because if you don’t personally want to live in such a way, you won’t put in the effort to do so or continue on that path. So having that personal desire to live an intentional life in Christ needs to be a strong want for you.
What I mean by having a desire or purpose for intentional living is to have a definite reason why. Why do you want to live an intentional life? What specifically do you want out of life or want to accomplish? What matters most to you?
These are some though-provoking questions to ask yourself as you ponder on the idea of living a meaningful life of intention. Having a definite why will help keep you focused, on track, and intentional on purpose.
2. Understand What it Means to Live an Intentional Life
Another key to living an intentional life is understanding what it actually means to live intentionally. There are many resources available that can give you a better understanding or clarity on what this type of lifestyle is all about and what is required of you to live it successfully. Honestly there’s no manual per se on a specific way you must live (aside from the bible of course!), but there are some helpful tips and things to consider, such as the amount of discipline and commitment it will require.
3. Become Aware of What God Has Called You To
As you pursue an intentional life in Christ it is both helpful and important that you learn and understand what God is calling you to in your life. Maybe He’s calling you to a specific way of living. What I mean by calling you is that the Lord may be instructing you to do a particular thing or live in a particular way.
4. Identify What Matters Most to You
How do you truly want to live your life? Knowing this will help you as you go along your journey. It’s helpful to identify those things that truly matter most to you. These particular things will help guide you and give you a set focus as you cultivate your intentional life. Remember, living an intentional life needs to be true to who you are.
5. Analyze Your Life/Take Inventory
This here is one of my most favorite things to do. I faithfully dedicate every Friday to “self-reflection/inventory” simply because it is such a necessary thing to do specifically to measure where you are in life and analyze how you’re living. You must be accountable for yourself and ensure you are on the path that is intentionally lived. So analyzing your life and taking inventory pretty often is vital. Analyzing your life requires you to do some digging sometimes. This is sometimes difficult to do, but it will help you.
