As a child of God you are in a daily battle against the enemy of your soul, Satan. He comes to fulfill one purpose, which is to kill, steal, and destroy you and everything connected to you. For this reason, it is vital that you walk Fully Equipped with The Whole Armor of God, that you may be able to stand undefeated during times of spiritual warfare.

Before we get into what our armor is, let’s talk about what it means to be fully equipped with God’s armor, why you need it, and it’s significance so that you will have a better understanding of God’s armor for your life and how to properly wear it.

What it means to be Fully Equipped with The Whole Armor of God:

Before we get into what The Whole Armor of God is, let’s first discuss what it means to be fully equipped with God’s armor. By having an understanding of what this means you will be able to apply God’s armor so that it may be effective in your daily life.

Being fully equipped with the whole armor of God is very important because there will always come a time when Satan will try to bring something against you, no matter what it is. When those situations and circumstances arises in your life, because they will, you will be able to walk victoriously in God. You will be able to stand your ground without wavering, becoming defeated, or giving up. You will also be able to hold onto your faith in God because you’ve learned how to properly apply and use your armor appropriately.

Because the enemy is always looking to bring some trouble against you as 1 Peter 5:8 reminds, “… Our adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”, you must be ready when the unexpected visits your door step.

Why You Need to be Fully Equipped with The Whole Armor of God:

God has given you VIP access to this protective armor, that you may be able to withstand the enemy. Ephesians 6:11 reminds, that when you put on this armor, you will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. It will help you to stand against anything that the devil attempts to bring against you.

There are various things the enemy will try to do to destroy God’s people. Understanding the significance of this armor is the first step, and secondly, putting it on and keeping it on, daily.

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that,

“We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

There’s a serious fight going on in heavenly places that we can’t physically see and you’re going to need some powerful weapons beyond what you can provide for yourself. You need the help of the Lord to fight these constant battles in your life.

The bible shares that you are fighting against an enemy who’s trying to take what’s inside of you. He knows that you carry the power of God, purpose, and destiny that God has put in you. He wants to abort everything that God has put in you to accomplish in the kingdom of God, but you have the power and must protect that!

The Significance of being Fully Equipped with The Whole Armor of God:

God does not leave us in the battlefield alone, but prepares us for those battles by providing us with the necessary equipment and tools needed to overcome and defeat the enemy.

Being properly prepared for any battle is vital. No one goes to war without wearing the proper armor. Soldiers are trained to always be fully guarded, equipped, and armored for battle. If they fail to do so, there are serious consequences they will suffer.

The same applies to the people of God. We must always have on our spiritual gear. It is just as important as having on our everyday clothing. It is better to stay prepared than have to get prepared because when circumstances come you may not have time to get ready. This is how significant God’s armor is for your life.

We must understand that we can no longer fight the way we’re used to fighting, in the natural. But, we must fight in the spiritual realm, which we’ll go over later in this post. You can’t afford to walk around in ignorance of Satan’s devices and tactics because he is a strategist and you ought to be as well.

You should now have an understanding of what it means to be fully equipped with the whole armor of God, why you need it, and it’s significance. The seven pieces of armor are broken down so you’ll get a clear understanding of each one and it’s purpose. Now, let’s get into the scope of what The Whole Armor of God is according to, Ephesians 6:10-18.

This post is about The Whole Armor of God and why you need it.

The Whole Armor of God

1. Truth-[Belt]:

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth.” -Ephesians 6:14

To gird your waist means to secure yourself. Naturally, a belt is a band of material for encircling the waist. In the spirit, truth is our “belt” which helps us to stand upright before the Lord.

When you choose to walk in the truth of God no lie from the enemy will be able to cause you to stumble. When the enemy starts speaking lies to you, you have the authority to speak God’s word back to him. How could you believe the deceptions of the enemy while walking by God’s truth anyways!?

2. Righteousness-[Breastplate]:

“Stand therefore, … having put on the breastplate of righteousness.” – Ephesians 6:14

A breastplate is a piece of armor that is used to cover the chest, to protect the heart. Keeping your heart and ways right before God is one of the most important things you could do.

The bible tells us in Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.” It is only when we protect our hearts from the evilness and wickedness of this world and have a clean and righteous heart, that we will see God. We must learn to live righteously before God by walking upright, keeping His word, and obeying Him.

3. Preparation of the gospel of Peace-[Spiritual Shoes]:

“and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”  – Ephesians 6:15

Having on your spiritual shoes daily is to ensure that you may walk in God’s ways and pursue His peace.

With a world full of distractions it is very easy for you to become misfocused and pursue another path. When you remain on the path of righteousness and peace you will be able to stand firm footed and walk with God.

4. Faith-[Shield]:

“above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” – Ephesians 6:16

The shield of faith allows you to block everything that is not of God. Faith shields you from the lies, deceptions, and tricks of the enemy and allows you to hold onto your faith in God.

It is by faith that you believe what God says concerning your life. Faith also gives you the power to believe even those things that you don’t currently see.

5. Salvation-[Helmet]:

“and take the helmet of salvation…” – Ephesians 6:17

This spiritual helmet of salvation protects your mind and thoughts. It keeps your mind on the ultimate promise which is eternal salvation. This is one of the main areas that needs protection because if the enemy gets into your mind, he will be able to control your entire being.

The mind is also the devil’s battlefield. He loves to try to come in and play around in it. You must protect it by all means by staying close + connected to God.

6. God’s Word-[Sword]:

“and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God…” – Ephesians 6:17

When it comes to fighting the enemy we can’t use our own weapons. We have to use our spiritual sword along with the six other weapons that God has equipped us with.

The ‘Sword” is the divine word of God. Satan has to submit to and obey God’s powerful and anointed word. Just as Satan went into the wilderness and tried to tempt Jesus three times, Matthew 4:1-11, he comes to us trying to do the exact same thing. When Jesus spoke the powerful word of God back to the devil, He eventually fled.

Although he will eventually come back with something else, this is exactly what you must do when he tries to come to you with ungodly things. You can’t go running your mouth at this invisible, yet powerful enemy, you must declare God’s holy word and he has to leave you alone. You have more power and authority than he because the spirit of God is within you, if you have His Holy Spirit.

7. Prayer-[Direct Communication]:

praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” -Ephesians 6:18

Prayer is it’s own weapon which holds it’s own power. It is our spiritual landline in which we communicate with our Heavenly Father. Through prayer we are able to stay connected with God as the branch is connected to the vine. Prayer carries the power to change you, change things, and keep you. It is through such that we fight the enemy. It holds the ability to keep us anchored in God, sustain us, and strengthen us. Prayer weakens Satan’s kingdom and we become more of a threat to him.

Applying “The Whole Armor of God” to your life will help you walk victoriously and undefeated in God. God has given us access to this spiritual armor because He cares for His children. He does not want us to be overtaken by the enemy. Because you are a child of God, this makes you an automatic target. The devil will always try to mess with you which is why it is very important to walk properly dressed and armored EVERYDAY.
