There is incredible power in purpose—especially when you discover your purpose and begin walking in the life God created for you.
Discovering your purpose is the beginning of truly walking in what God created you for. But before you can fully walk in purpose, it’s important to understand what purpose is, why it matters to God, and the power you possess when you begin to live in it.

Today’s post explores what purpose is, what the Bible says about it, and why it’s powerful for your life. Knowing this gives you a clearer understanding of God’s purpose and direction for your life.

This post is all about discovering your purpose and the life-changing power of purpose.
“Do you know that you are God’s workmanship, and that you were created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that you should walk in them?” (Ephesians 2:10)
In other words, you are God’s masterpiece. God created you on purpose, for a purpose, with a purpose. You were not created by chance or happenstance—you were created for a divine reason.
God was intentional when He created you. He uniquely designed and crafted you. In fact, when God created you, He planted within you special gifts, talents, and abilities—what I often call your spiritual assets—And it’s your responsibility to dig deep and uncover them.
What is Purpose?
Over the last several years, I dedicated myself to studying and seeking God’s word in pursuit of purpose. Through that journey, I’ve come to understand that purpose is often referred to as your calling or ministry. It is simply the work—or body of work—that God has called you to, chosen you for, and predestined for you to fulfill in your life, for His kingdom and His divine purpose. While each of our callings may look different, we are all invited to accomplish something meaningful in the body of Christ.
Though our purposes differ, they all work together for the good and upbuilding of God’s kingdom. Just as the Bible speaks of the unity in the diversity of spiritual gifts—how each person is given something different—there is one body with many members, and all the members belong to that one body.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-12)
So whatever your divine calling is, there is great need of it.
God’s Invitation
Being called means being summoned or invited. If God has gifted you a purpose—which He certainly has—then He is inviting you to embrace His divine calling and to walk faithfully in it.
Your spiritual assets, as I mentioned earlier, are a major part of your purpose. Their purpose is to equip you for the work of ministry and for the edifying of the body of Christ.
In other words, your spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities are to help you fulfill your life’s assignment and contribute to God’s work on earth.
What the Bible Says About Purpose
Throughout scripture, the Bible speaks of God’s divine purpose for His chosen people. There are several references that show us what purpose means to God and what it specifically means for you as a woman of God.
Some scriptures to consider are:
- 2 Timothy 1:9-God, “who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace…”
- Exodus 31: 3-”And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship…”
- Ephesians 4:4-”There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling…”
These are just a few references that show us God’s intent for purpose and why it’s important for you to discover and walk in yours. God has equipped you with everything you need to do the work that He is calling you to do.
The Example of Jesus
The greatest example of purpose is Jesus—and always will be. He lived a purpose-driven and purpose-filled life. Jesus came on purpose, for a purpose, with a purpose—the same as you, though His mission was far greater. His life perfectly exemplified what it means to live in total pursuit of purpose, which made Him even more powerful in fulfilling the work He was sent to do.
No matter the circumstances, obstacles, trials, or tribulations He faced, Jesus remained persistent, focused, and fully committed to His assignment. He was on a mission—always about His Father’s business. (Luke 4:29)
As a result, Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the world so that we could be forgiven and washed clean from our sin by His blood. Because of that great sacrifice, we now have the privilege of living in communion with Him and walking in His power. This is only possible because of His willingness to pursue and fulfill His divine purpose.
This reveals the incredible power of purpose when God calls you and you intentionally respond. When God places a purpose on your life, it is an invitation to serve Him faithfully and walk in the calling He has prepared for you.
The Power of Walking in Your Purpose
As we see from the life of Jesus, there is incredible power in purpose. Jesus walked with clarity about the mission His Father had given Him. Every step He took reflected that divine calling.
In the same way, God has placed a unique purpose inside of each of us. There is something powerful that happens the moment you begin to recognize that purpose and take intentional steps toward walking in it.
Your calling is a gift from God. He has entrusted you with this gift to carry, nurture, and eventually bring to life. Just like a seed planted in the ground, purpose must be cultivated through faith, obedience, and perseverance before it fully blossoms.
When you begin to walk in your purpose, several things begin to change:
- Your life gains direction instead of confusion.
- Your actions become intentional instead of aimless.
- Your faith grows stronger because you are partnering with God’s plan for your life.
Purpose aligns your life with God’s will. When you embrace it, you are no longer simply existing — you are living the life God designed you to live.
